WHAT IS LASIK EYE SURGERY?

LASIK is an acronym that stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. An outpatient procedure that uses an FDA-approved excimer laser to reshape the cornea to correct your vision. LASIK is a type of refractive laser eye surgery that is used for correcting myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. It helps to reduce or remove a person’s dependence on eyeglasses or contact lenses.

HOW LASIK SURGERY WORKS?

During LASIK, a cool laser beam is used to reshape the front part of your eye, called the cornea, so you can see more clearly. This can help fix common vision problems like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The whole procedure only takes about 15 minutes for each eye, and you’ll be able to go home the same day!

There’s no need to be anxious before the procedure. You’ll get some numbing eye drops to make sure you’re comfortable. We have a team of top-rated lasik surgeons that will make a tiny flap on your cornea using a special laser. They’ll gently lift up the flap, use another laser to reshape your cornea, and then put the flap back in place. Your eye will heal naturally over time!

LASIK 3 Step Procedure

Step 1: Flap Creation

First step of LASIK involves the creation of a small corneal flap. Using an instrument called a microkeratome, the surgeon creates a small protective flap of corneal tissue that is gently lifted back.

Step 2: Laser Correction

The second step involves the use of the VISX Star S4Excimer Laser.

The laser applies a cool beam of light which gently reshapes the cornea allowing images to be more sharply focused on the retina to correct the individual refractive error.

Step 3: Flap Gently Replaced

Finally, the protective flap that was created in Step 1 is gently placed back to its original position and begins healing immediately with little discomfort.

Vision is expected to improve within the next few days after the surgery.
