What does Conventional LASIK treat?

Myopia

Myopia, commonly known as nearsightedness, occurs when the eye focuses images in front of the retina, leading to blurry, distant vision.

Hyperopia

Hyperopia, or farsightedness, results from the eye focusing images behind the retina, causing difficulty with close-up tasks.

Astigmatism

Astigmatism is characterized by an uneven cornea or lens curvature, leading to distorted or blurred vision.

What is Conventional LASIK?

Conventional LASIK, or Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is a fast and painless vision refraction treatment that reshapes the cornea to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

Benefits of Conventional LASIK

Enhanced Vision

Standard LASIK provides patients with improved vision, reducing or eliminating the need for eyeglasses or contact lenses.

Quick Recovery

Patients typically experience a quick recovery with minimal discomfort after Standard LASIK, allowing them to return to their normal activities within a few days.

Satisfying Results

Standard LASIK is known for its predictability and reliability in achieving the desired refractive outcomes, enhancing the overall satisfaction of patients.

Long-lasting Effects

The results of Standard LASIK are generally long-lasting, providing patients with stable vision correction over an extended period.

How Is Conventional LASIK Done?

Step 1. Preparation

The patient’s eye is numbed with anesthetic drops.

Step 2. Corneal Flap Creation

The Conventional LASIK procedure begins with the eye expert creating a thin flap in the cornea using a mechanical microkeratome.

Step 3. Lifting and Folding Back the Flap

Once the flap is created, it is delicately lifted and folded back, exposing the underlying corneal tissue.

Step 4. Corneal Tissue Removal

Then, the eye expert uses the excimer laser to remove a precise amount of corneal tissue from the exposed area.

Step 5. Flap Reinstallation

Once the tissue is appropriately removed, the flap is carefully reinstalled.

Step 6. Healing Process

The eye begins to heal within 1–3 months post-procedure.

Step 7. Resuming Normal Activities

Patients usually notice an improvement in their vision within a few hours and can resume their normal activities after a few days.

Step 8. Follow-Up Checkups

Regular follow-up checkups will be scheduled to monitor your progress and ensure optimal healing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

How do I know if I'm a candidate for LASIK?

A:

To determine if you are a candidate for LASIK, a comprehensive eye examination is needed. Factors such as overall eye health, prescription stability, and corneal thickness are considered.

Our LASIK experts at The Lasik Surgery Clinic will conduct an evaluation to assess your eligibility and discuss personalized options.

Q:

How long does the Conventional LASIK procedure take?

A:

The actual Conventional LASIK procedure takes about 5–10 minutes on each eye. However, the whole process may take 1-2 hours, including registration, preparation, debriefing, and post-op consultation.

Q:

Is Conventional LASIK painful?

A:

Conventional LASIK is painless. Anesthetic eye drops will be administered before the procedure to completely numb the eye. During the procedure, patients may feel a light pressure sensation around the eye. The discomfort after the procedure is minimal; most patients describe it as gritty or like a lash in their eye. Most patients resume normal activities within a day. If necessary, we will provide a prescription for a pain reliever.

Q:

What if I move or blink during a LASIK procedure?

A:

Your eye will be held open by a lid holder, so you can’t blink. The back of your head will rest securely and comfortably in a contoured headrest with an indent, and all you need to do is watch the green blinking light.
Advanced tracking technology ensures a precise LASIK procedure. If movement is detected, the laser is designed to pause until stability is regained, ensuring the accuracy of the procedure.

Q:

How soon after the LASIK procedure will I be able to see?

A:

Most patients experience improved vision immediately after LASIK, with optimal results often achieved within a few days. You are advised to refrain from driving, swimming, and strenuous activities after the procedure. Full recovery may take a few weeks, but you will notice an obvious improvement day by day.

Q:

Are there any age restrictions for undergoing Standard LASIK?

A:

While there are no specific age restrictions for Conventional LASIK, suitability for the procedure is based on your overall eye health. Our The Lasik Surgery Clinic experts will thoroughly evaluate your specific case during the consultation.

Testimonials

What a great blessing to have my 20/20 vision back!

I have spent over 17 years of my life wearing eyeglasses and contact lens, finally [it’s] time to get rid of them.

Getting LASIK was indeed a LIFE-CHANGING experience! I feel like I’m a new person, and I love that I don’t need any glasses or contacts to assist me anymore with my activities of daily living, especially working and driving.

It’s still surreal that I had my vision back in just less than a day! The procedure was quick and painless, too. Cheers to a miracle of modern science, and to the staff of The Lasik Surgery Clinic – AUFMC and to Dr. Pius Ocampo Ocampo Eye & Skin Clinic.

They were thorough and demonstrated the highest standards of professionalism!

If you are [on] the fence, just take the leap and have the surgery done – you will not regret it, and [it’s] totally worth it!

Thank you, Jesus, for this wonderful and unexpected blessing!

Ms. Kristel Paula
