The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery or ESCRS was founded in 1991, which aims to foster education and research in the field of intraocular lens implantation and refractive surgery and to advance and promote the study and practice of ophthalmology. ESCRS has over 7,500 members from 130 countries worldwide.
This year, its annual meeting is taking place in Barcelona, Spain, attracting numerous international ophthalmologists, including a contingent from the Philippines. Since the culture and the arts are familiar to us here in the Philippines, not to mention the excellent Spanish cuisine, our esteemed eye doctors ensured they attended this meeting.
The conference was well-attended by other international ophthalmologists but several Filipino eye doctors were also there. With the numerous lectures and papers being presented, our eye doctors focused on familiar topics including LASIK, Keratorefractive Lenticular Extraction (KLEX), Intra Collamer Lens Implant (ICL), Collagen Cross-Linking for corneal ectatic diseases, Refractive Laser machines, and more.
Notably, The Lasik Surgery Clinic eye care team visited the Schwind booth and connected with Dr. Kishore Pradhan, a KLEX mentor from Kathmandu, Nepal. Dr. Andrew Angeles, Dr. Raoul Paulo Henson, Dr. Pius Jonas Ocampo, Dr. Armand Contreras, Dr. Jose Mari Owen Ramos, Dra. Maria Rae Celia Angeles, Dr. Carlomagno Torres, and Dr. Ferdinand Lagunilla also met with the CEO and regional heads of the Schwind Laser Company.
Additionally, in December 2023, The Lasik Surgery Clinic became the first and only facility in the Philippines to acquire the SCHWIND ATOS Femtosecond Laser. Since January 2024, they have performed hundreds of SmartSight (KLEX) and SmartLASIK procedures. With the insights gained from the conference, they are poised to introduce innovative laser surgical techniques that will ultimately enhance patient care for Filipinos.
Meanwhile, The Lasik Surgery Clinic is exclusively offering SmartSight, its most advanced femtosecond laser procedure and minimally invasive lenticule extraction. SmartSight uses the SCHWIND ATOS Femtosecond Laser to create a predefined lenticule within the corneal tissue, facilitating the treatment of myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.
